IMG_3557A ‘mondegreen’ is the phrase that describes the unintentional mix up of a phrase, that gives it a new meaning, just as a malapropism describes the unintentional mistaken use of spoken phrases.

Four years ago I started a Facebook Group called ‘Last Night I Boiled an Egg, But What an Egg it Was’. Try singing that to the tune of Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’.

The idea of the group was to draw like minded people together who might live frugally, but love to live healthily and tastefully.

Food has always been a passion for me. I was lucky enough to have parents who believed in feeding fresh fruit and vegetables to my siblings and I, from the earliest time. We grew most of our own vegetables and fruits so we got off to a good start.

These days, these are the things we’re all trying to learn to do. Once you get started, you won’t want to go back.

Like many people these days, I feel the recession squeeze but that should never mean you’re hungry or malnourished. I’m also a diabetic, which means my diet must be low fat, without sugar and full of complex carbohydrates, like grains and pulses. I’ve never looked on diabetes as a handicap; quite the contrary, it’s a recipe for good health, if you follow the instructions.
